Saying goodbye to 286 College Street and hello to 463 Mountain View Drive
Trust Company of Vermont announces a move of its Burlington Office on November 1st.
When Trust Company of Vermont was founded in 1999, it had three office spaces, one in Rutland, one in Brattleboro and one in Burlington. The original Burlington Office was a small two office space located on 196 Battery Street. In 2006, we moved into our current location on 286 College Street. At the time, there were four employee-owners in the building, and we could all fit on one floor.
The first office that I occupied in the College Street building had pink walls from the previous owner. I remember coming in on the weekends to spackle and paint the office a neutral cream color. There were many small projects like that we did ourselves in those early years, literally putting our blood, sweat and tears into the building.
The building is a wonderful early 1900s Victorian with incredible woodwork. It was originally the residence of the Bartley Family, which had shipping operations on Lake Champlain. We’ve worked diligently over the years to maintain the building’s inside and outside beauty. The building has ten office spaces and accommodated our growth well in the early years.
There is a lot of demand in the area for investment management, trust administration, estate planning consultation, financial planning and the other services that we offer. Consequently, the company has grown over the years, and we now have eighteen employee-owners at our Burlington location. Since the building only has ten office spaces and eleven parking spaces, the last two years have been somewhat challenging due to space constraints. In addition, we have clients that would benefit from handicap accessibility. Over the last few years, we’ve investigated ways to expand the building and to add handicap accessibility, but it is nearly impossible to do so while maintaining the building’s natural beauty.
As a result, we made the difficult decision to change our location to 463 Mountain View Drive in Colchester effective November 1, 2024. This new space will allow each employee-owner to have their own office and will provide unlimited parking, handicap accessibility and more conference room space for meetings.
The move is bittersweet as we love our current location, and it has been good to us over the almost twenty-year period that we occupied it. However, one of the most important core values of the company is to deliver the highest possible level of service to our employee-owners and our clients. The new location will allow us to do this.
